Learn Kayaking in the Himalayas
Intermediate:
The Intermediate Kayaker will come either straight out of our beginner classes or is a beginner kayaker interested in building his skills.
At the end of the course the intermediate kayaker will have learned about rescues, scouting, river hazards, basic creeking skills and river play.
We will kayak up to grade IV with maybe the odd -V rapid.
The intermediate kayaker should be able to Eskimo roll and to negotiate easy rapids as well as being able to read easy features in the water before joining the course.
Course length will be 13 days.
Day 1: Transport to the Kayaking Resort. We will go through the basics again to ensure your abilities and some theory. Overnight in Resort.
Day 2: Our full day on the river is mainly to further assess your skills and start playing. Overnight in Resort.
Day 3: We will thoroughly evaluate dangers and hazards along the river while descending. Overnight in Resort.
Day 4: We will give it another play and warm up before we drive back to Kathmandu. Accomodation in Kathmandu.
Day 5: Drive to Trisuli River, Descend Trisuli, Focus today is on enjoy the river, scouting your first grade IV rapid and work on river safety.
Day 6: Some more grade III and one grade IV rapid to work up on your skills. All of them nice and friendly big volume rapids. Transfer to Pokhara, Stay in Pokhara.
Day 7: Today you will go on some shallow but continious grade III(IV) river. The upper Seti is conviniently located only a few minutes drive from Pokhara. Accomodation in Pokhara.
Day 8: Your first overnight Expedition will be the Kali Gandaki, some powerfull grade IV rapids on the first day to work upon your water reading skills and scouting abilities. Camp
Day 9: Plenty to play with features and lots of friendly grade III rapids to enjoy. Camp.
Day 10: The last day will be an enjoyable and final day to assess your skills before heading out for your major river, the mighty Bothe Koshi. Transport to Pokhara. Accomodation in Pokhara.
Day 11: Transfer to Kathmandu. Accomodation in Kathmandu.
Day 12: The Upper Bothe Koshi offers it all, steep, continious grade III-IV rapids with the odd grade V rapid. Depending on your skills you will be either more kayaking or walking.
Day 13: Again another shot on the Bothe Koshi before departing to Kathmandu for the big party. By now you should have build up your skills for the next step.
